Director of Clinical Integration
Dr. Melanie Carlone, DPT is a clinical physical therapist and devoted health educator. She draws on innovation from a broad East-West integrated health approach empowering individuals and communities to restore vibrant function and optimal health. Her holistic training as a movement specialist, alignment educator and neuromusculoskeletal pain reduction advocate began as a Navy-trained PT and then founder of the Health Promotions Program at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda Maryland. A former Peace Corps volunteer in central Africa, she returned to live and to work in Africa and Asia for many years learning and integrating indigenous healing modalities and wisdom traditions with modern scientific advances into her non-conventional physical therapy practice. In non-profit and private practice, her advocacy work includes developing interdisciplinary approaches to non-pharmacologic pain management, client-centered rehabilitation care strategies and coordinating non-profit opportunities for health professionals and students to work with underserved communities on sustainable capacity- building initiatives. These opportunities champion creative implementation processes that address health disparity in vulnerable and low-resourced areas. They also inspire young professionals to employ integrative health approaches from the outset of practice. Her passion and focus facilitate individual and community sustainability and collaborative relationships to empower positive change. Melanie's life work supports individual and community resilience to prepare for an uncertain future and less available resources.
